Preview of the Festival.

Come join us at the WV Quilt Festival June 23-25th.

I will be teaching the Starry Garden Class on the 24th.

Friday, June 24, 9-12 and 2-5
$60 ($50 for members)

This quilt is a combination of 12 pieced blocks, that are 12 inches finished, and 6 simple folk art floral appliqué blocks, that are 12 inches finished.

Students will receive the patterns for all 12 of the pieced star blocks and all 6 of the appliqué blocks.

In class, we will construct 3 of the star blocks.  The remainder of the blocks can be completed at home, at the student’s leisure.  We will learn the technique of needle-turn appliqué and one of the floral blocks will be glued up and ready to appliqué.  We will get started on the appliqué process and the blocks can be completed by the student at home.

Finished quilt size will be dependent upon how the student chooses to finish the quilt.  We will discuss the options available for finishing.  If the student so chooses, the materials needed and amounts will be provided to finish the quilt as the sample was done.

This quilt was designed in 1999 for a quilt retreat I taught in Wisconsin.  I learned to quilt in the early 1970’s by an Amish women I befriended and from which I provided transportation too.  She wanted to repay me for my time and I asked her to teach me her beautiful quilting skills.  By the light of her kerosene lantern in the evenings after work or on Saturday mornings, she taught me her skill.  She also taught me a lot about simplicity and God’s hand in the gift of quilting.  Even though she is no longer with us on this earth, my quilting journey continues.

Enjoy the fun of constructing these blocks.  Your individuality develops with each and every block.  Throw in my favorite of God’s flowers in a fold art fashion and you will have a wonderful individually designed bed quilt.

You will need the following supplies: click here.

Don’t forget to look for me on the 25th as I will also be demonstrating Wool Applique during the Teacher’s Medley.
